Parlour Show: 2008

Rules and Helpful Hints
The purpose of the Parlour Show is to allow members an opportunity to Show What They Grow and Share What They Know. Entering the Parlour Show allows you to show what can be grown here, to display interesting or unusual plant material, to learn how to exhibit, to have unknown plants identified, and generally provide a personal contribution to the members’ enjoyment of the meeting.

Anything you wish to show, but which is not covered in the classes for the month, should be entered in the Unlisted class. The Display table is for anything of interest that you do not wish to have judged.

Points will be awarded as follows: 1st - 3 points, 2nd - 2 points, 3rd - 1 point, honorable mention - ½ point. An extra ½ point will be given to any correctly named exhibit. Design/compositions/arrangements: 1st—5 points, 2nd—3 points, 3rd—2 points.

Judging will be done by qualified judges from the Vancouver Island Horticultural Judges Group

Arrangement: an arrangement consists of fresh, cut plant material in a container, with a base if necessary. Accessories are permitted only if the schedule so states.

Composition: a composition may consist of dried, weathered or treated plant material and /or accessories, with or without fresh plant material. Artificial flowers and foliage are prohibited except where specified.

Design: a design may be either an arrangement or a composition.

Share what you know, show what you grow!
Virtual Parlour Show
I don't know about you, but one of the reasons I don't bring much to the Parlour Show is that I just hate cutting stuff in the garden so that it can have its fifteen minutes of fame!
Here's an idea. A virtual Parlour Show. I'm sure lots of people have digital cameras and would like to share their garden photos. We could make a laptop available on the Parlour Show tables with a looped slide show. Send us your contribution before the regular monthly meeting and we can put the show together. Even if you are still in the film age you can have pictures developed and printed onto a CD, so no excuse for the purists!

Maybe down the road we can have separate categories for the Virtual Parlour Show.
This could be the start of something new and exciting.
