Native Plant Study Group

Meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month, September through May (no meeting in December).

Regular activities in this group include:
- field trips to regional parks & gardens
-monthly newsletter
-participation in symposiums, fairs, shows and conferences
-rescuing/salvaging native plants from construction sites
-representation on committees relating to native plants

Pre-meeting workshop (downstairs) at 6:30pm:-

Carolyn Herriot will give pointers on how to Save your Seeds. Carolyn,  President of the VHS and the owner of The Garden Path is an avid and experienced seed-saver. This workshop will encourage members to start saving seed for next Spring's NEW VHS seed exchange.

General Meeting Speaker: Deborah Walker
Title: Water Wise: Water conservation in Greater Victoria

Deborah Walker is the Demand Management Coordinator for the CRD Water Services Dept and has the responsibility to promote the wise and efficient use of water. Her illustrated presentation will include the following topics:

  • The world's water supply
  • Where your water comes from
  • Water Conservation programs and initiatives as they pertain to homeowners (and gardeners)


Victoria Lily Society

The Victoria Lily Society will be hosting the annual conference and show of the North American Lily Society (NALS) at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney from July 2 - 6. The 12 conference lectures include presentations by John Lykkegaard (Denmark), Brian Mathew (England), and Jaap Van Tuyl (The Netherlands). The large public show features lily stems, flower arrangements with lilies, plus vendors with potted lilies and companion plants. For complete information consult NALS2008.org. Printed handbooks with registration forms will be distributed at the March VHS meeting. You do NOT have to register for the conference to submit entries. See You at the "Seaside Scentsation" in Sidney by the Sea!

THE  VHS MAGICAL MYSTERY BUS TOUR

The Magical Mystery Bus will depart on Sunday July 20th at 9am and will return by 9pm.

Park all your troubles at Saanich City Hall's Car Park and get on board for a day of  'Finding Food Close to Home'.

You are guaranteed to eat, drink and be merry from morning to night!
End a delightful day of discovery by enjoying a seasonal dinner with all the flavours of the region.

Cost:  Only $75 inclusive of dinner.
